Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso hailed Patrik Schick winner in a thrilling 4-3 comeback win over Stuttgart as a “miraculous moment”.

Leverkusen hopes of retaining their Bundesliga title were boosted after they came from behind to beat Stuttgart 4-3, with three goals in the final 23 minutes and the winner coming in stoppage time from a header by Patrik Schick.

“We gave it our all with the front three and the wide players. We had our problems in the first half but the players responded very well in the second 45 minutes. The substitutes did well, with their dynamics and aggression.”

The win brought back memories of Leverkusen’s tendency to turn games round in the last minute when it won the Bundesliga title last season. It also cut Bayern Munich’s lead at the top of the standings over second-placed Leverkusen to six points after Bayern drew 1-1 at Union Berlin on Saturday.
After the international break, Leverkusen will return to action with a home game against Bochum on Friday, March 28.
